“A Village On A Shell Mound, The Many Generations of Life At Old Fort Mound”

Learn about recent archaeological finds from the last remaining shell mound in New Smyrna Beach known as Old Fort Mound. This mound was the central architectural element of a large indigenous community identified as the 17th Century Timucua village of Caparaca. This same location became the “center of town” in our colonial / pioneer eras and as such was witness to history that can be explored through archaeology data recently recovered.
