Explore multiple areas that started to become the town centers for New Smyrna, beginning with the Smyrnea’ Settlement of 1768 through the arrival of Henry Flagler’s Florida East Coast Railway.

Old Coronado Beach & Flagler Avenue

Visit multiple local historic landmarks as well as sites where New Smyrna’s first residents made their homes. Discover a tomb in the middle of the street and a WWII watchtower site as you explore the story of the community formerly known as Coronado Beach. This tour meets the gazebo on the corner of Flagler Ave. and S. Pine St. adjacent to the shuffleboard courts. Please arrive 15 minutes early, and bring correct change for payments.

1) Tuesday, Central Historic District Tour

Visit multiple historic sites and hear about some notable characters who influenced the growth and culture of New Smyrna. Learn how the city got its first library in exchange for buying a bridge, and how the Seminole and Civil Wars impacted the area we now know as downtown New Smyrna.

2) Wednesday, Old Coronado Beach & Flagler Avenue

Learn about the tragic impact the Civil War had on the residents of New Smyrna as they were caught between a Union Navy blockade and Confederate efforts to use Mosquito Inlet as a port to support the war effort.
